Haiga 609 Sue Mill haiku - drought

Haiku by Sue Mill (USA). Artwork by myself.
One good thing about Japan is that the land is full of water: good rainfall, a lot of rivers, a lot of spring water, tap water drinkable everywhere. I think many Japanese take it for granted. However, when you turn your eyes to the world, Japan's condition is very rare, and is definitely a blessing and something to thank for.

Chinese are buying rights to some remote water spots in Japan. The Yellow River, one of the biggest rivers in China, is reported to reach the ocean only about 50 days out of a year. The rest of the days, it disappears along the way. This is caused by the increasing consumption of water. Water will certainly be a precious resource in the future.

Water Resources was my specialisation for Engineering and that makes me always worry about water...'Rain water harvesting' was brought about with great zest for residential/school/office complexes, but not pursued as effectively,

so much rain....yet water scarcity, too...

all that aside, beautiful haiga, Kuni-san :)

Thank you for your comment, Devika san.
India, too, havs great rivers like Ganga. Once I live in Kollata (when the city was called Calcutta) for a month. Coming from Japan, the water there was not quite friendly. I spent hours in toilet.

ha! Water quality in industrailised cities is a problem, Kuni-san...i had so much trouble adjusting to Delhi water supply,

Ganga Action Plan (1985/86) for cleaning the river was a failure...but projects on Ganga/Yamuna have been restarted in 2010 with much public/private partnership...

Meantime, our clean and pure underground sources are tapped by Pepsi/Cola....and we have been fighting legal cases against them,

well India's water problem could go into pages :)

Since Japan has so much water, both fresh and sea, you can ask your Diet to have a look at the idea of the sea water /fresh water battery reactor which works by alternating the flow of sea and fresh water through it www.://sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/03/110329134254.htm and in that way our children and grandchildren may yet survive the nuclear energy holocaust

Thanks for the link, Williams san. Japan really need to seek alternative energy sources in the years to come.

Japan is also a volcanic islands so geo-heat might be another resource. I learned that the Iceland will, in the futre, generate 50% of electricity from geo-heat. Japan's technology is been used there.
