Haiku by Matsuo Basho. Artwork by myself.
The 2nd. haiku in Nozarashi Kiko.
(translation copy right by University of New York Press, Albany)
Basho had lived long in Edo, the present Tokyo, when he departed for the journey. Basho felt Edo being his home. He was leaving but surely would return to Edo. To convey his feeling and thus to comfort disciples, he wrote this haiku for them who waved hands, missing him.
